A.D. 2007 August 01

July sure went by quick. Not that I'm a father, will it be like that from now on?

...I'm still counting down to when the days start getting cooler - only one week left.

...Did I mention that hunters in Yates County, New York will be permitted to use rifles during the upcoming big game hunting season? It will be the first time since I-don't-know-when. I grew up hunting with bolt-action rifles in Georgia, and I am looking forward to setting aside the old shotgun.

We got rifle deer hunting last fall here after decades of shotgun only. I thought it would be a disaster, but it went pretty well. Our guys have hunted with shotguns for so long though that we don't even have a rifle. (Still got two bucks.)

Perhaps that luck will trickle over our way! I haven't hunted a lot the past two years because of the incredible number of hunters in our area. I'm very excited about rifles opening up some new places on the farm for hunting!
